Hekla Energy Powers Sosnowiec with Green Energy

Sosnowiec is investing in a cleaner future. Thanks to its partnership with Hekla Energy – one of Poland’s leading green energy providers – from January 1, 2026, key municipal institutions will be powered entirely by renewable energy. This marks a tangible step towards climate neutrality and sustainable development.

A City with an Industrial Past and a Green Vision

Sosnowiec, the largest city in the Dąbrowa Basin, built its growth for decades on mining, metallurgy, and transportation. Green energy supplied by Hekla Energy symbolically closes the coal-based chapter of the city’s history and opens a new one – cleaner, more modern, and more people-friendly.

“We place great emphasis on fighting low emissions. Over the past 10 years, the number of smog days in Sosnowiec has dropped from over 100 to just a dozen or so. This shows the scale of transformation our city has undergone,” emphasizes Arkadiusz Chęciński, Mayor of Sosnowiec.

Green Energy for Key Institutions

Under the awarded public tender, Hekla Energy will supply renewable energy to public administration buildings, municipal infrastructure, and educational, medical, and cultural facilities.
Key municipal units and affiliated companies such as the Municipal Waste Management Company, Sosnowiec Waterworks, and the Municipal Transport Company will all be powered by green electricity.

In the healthcare sector, renewable energy will reach the Sosnowiec City Hospital, the Outpatient Medical Care Facility, and the Milowice Health Center.

Cultural and educational institutions will also benefit – including the Zagłębie Theatre, the CEE “Egzotarium”, the Sosnowiec Art Center – Sielecki Castle, the Schoen Palace – Museum in Sosnowiec, the Gustaw Daniłowski Municipal Public Library, the Jan Kiepura Municipal Cultural Club, and the Open Culture Stop. The Zagłębie Sports Park and numerous other public facilities are also among the locations powered by green energy.
