Eneco acquires majority stake in Hekla Energy to enter the Polish renewable energy market 

Eneco has agreed to acquire a majority stake in Hekla Energy, a fast-growing Polish renewable energy trading company. The transaction marks Eneco’s strategic entry into the Polish energy market and provides a platform to further expand its renewable energy, trading and flexibility activities in one of Europe’s largest and fastest-growing power markets. 

By combining Hekla Energy’s strong position in the Polish market with Eneco’s international capabilities in risk management, trading, portfolio optimisation and integrated renewable energy solutions, the companies aim to accelerate growth in renewable power offtake and power supply. The combination is also expected to enhance Eneco’s portfolio resilience and unlock further synergies through integration. The acquisition supports Eneco’s broader strategy to expand its renewable energy and trading footprint, diversify its portfolio geographically and strengthen its integrated trading and flexibility capabilities. Hekla Energy will serve as Eneco’s platform for building a broader integrated portfolio in Poland, including renewable energy offtake, B2B supply, flexibility and trading activities.

Hekla Energy’s founder and CEO, Gracjan Grela, will remain invested in the company and continue to lead the business, ensuring continuity, local expertise and entrepreneurial drive. The current majority shareholder , an investment fund managed by Forum TFI will exit as part of the transaction. A private investment fund based in Krakow managed by Forum TFI has supported Hekla Energy’s from inception through its growth phases preparing for the next growth phase under a new shareholder.
