Hekla Energy will once again supply green energy to Częstochowa

Częstochowa Continues Its Commitment to Clean Energy – New Contract Awarded to Hekla Energy

Częstochowa remains steadfast in its commitment to clean energy. Following the success of this year’s agreement for electricity sourced entirely from renewables, the city has once again entrusted Hekla Energy with the execution of a new contract. The order, awarded through a public tender, will cover the entire year of 2026 and ensure the supply of electricity to more than one thousand consumption points – from municipal offices and schools to key infrastructure facilities.

Hekla Energy has been supplying green electricity to Częstochowa since January 2025. Under the current agreement, the company delivered over 43,000 MWh of renewable energy, helping the city avoid nearly 30,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions. The electricity is sourced from certified renewable generation, including wind farms and photovoltaic installations.

Scope of the New Contract

According to the results of the latest public tender, in 2026 Hekla Energy will supply, among others:

• The Częstochowa City Hall and its departments,
• Municipal entities and companies, including the Regional Development Agency, the Municipal Integrated Hospital, Emergency Medical Services, the Częstochowa Philharmonic, the Częstochowa Museum, the Adam Mickiewicz Theatre, cultural institutions, sports halls, schools, preschools, and other public facilities,
• The Częstochowa Municipal Road Authority,
• The “WARTA” Wastewater Treatment Plant S.A., from which Hekla Energy will purchase locally generated electricity.

The Green Heart of the City – “WARTA” Wastewater Treatment Plant

The “WARTA” Wastewater Treatment Plant S.A. is not only the backbone of the city’s wastewater management – serving nearly 99% of Częstochowa’s residents – but also a key producer of local renewable electricity and heat. The facility operates a 500–830 kW cogeneration plant where both electricity and heat are produced from biogas generated during the fermentation of sewage sludge.

The energy purchased by Hekla Energy from “WARTA” will be reintegrated into the city’s consumption, increasing the share of locally generated green power in Częstochowa’s energy mix.

Scale of the Project

The new contract covers a total of 1,172 consumption points, with an estimated energy volume of approximately 42.73 GWh – equivalent to the annual electricity needs of several thousand households.

Continuation of a Pro-Environmental Strategy

The contract with Hekla Energy marks another step in implementing Częstochowa’s long-term strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase the share of renewables in the energy mix, and promote sustainable development.

“Ecology, energy efficiency, clean air, and the development of renewables remain key municipal priorities. Częstochowa continues to pursue these goals, among others, through EU-funded projects. The city also values cooperation with partners who, while offering competitive pricing, share our commitment to a common environmental objective – in this case, supplying only green electricity to municipal facilities,” said Włodzimierz Tutaj, spokesperson for the Częstochowa City Hall.

In addition to electricity supply, Hekla Energy ensures full transparency regarding the origin of the energy it delivers, backed by certificates recognized by national and international institutions.

The new contract demonstrates that investing in green energy is not only environmentally responsible but also economically sound – for municipalities and local communities alike.
